Maius v2 for macOS

Use it on your phone.

Your Mac does the work. Your phone is the screen. It works from anywhere — the office, a train, another country — and it is included. There is nothing more to pay.

This page is for the Mac download — Maius running on your own Mac. If you use the hosted version in a browser instead, none of this applies: it already works on your phone. Just open maius-ai.com/home in Safari and add it to your home screen. Compare the two →

What you get

  • Maius on your iPhone or iPad, talking to the agents on your own Mac.
  • An app icon on your home screen. It opens like an app, not a web page.
  • Voice works, because the connection is properly encrypted.
  • Nothing goes through us. Your phone talks to your Mac directly.

Before you start

Three things, and you probably have two of them:

Set aside about ten minutes. You only do this once.

Ten minutes, seven steps

  1. 1Install Tailscale on your Mac

    Open the App Store on your Mac, search for Tailscale, and install it. Open it and sign in — you can use your Google or Microsoft account, so there is no new password to invent.

    You should see: a small Tailscale icon appear in the menu bar at the top of your screen.

  2. 2Install Tailscale on your phone

    Same again on your iPhone: App Store, search Tailscale, install, open, and sign in with the same account you used on the Mac. This is the part people get wrong — two different accounts cannot see each other.

    You should see: your Mac listed by name inside the Tailscale app on your phone.

  3. 3Turn on secure connections

    On your Mac, open the Tailscale admin page and switch on HTTPS Certificates. One button.

    This is what lets your phone use the microphone and lets Maius install as a proper app icon. Without it, both are blocked by Apple — not by us.

  4. 4Tell your Mac to share Maius

    This is the only typing. On your Mac open Terminal (press ⌘ and Space, type Terminal, press Return), then copy this line, paste it, and press Return:

    tailscale serve --bg --https 7443 http://127.0.0.1:7788

    In plain English: let my own devices reach Maius, securely. It does not put anything on the public internet — only devices signed in to your Tailscale account can see it.

    You should see: a line starting https:// and ending .ts.net. That is your Mac's private address. Write it down — you need it in the next step.

  5. 5Open it on your phone

    On your phone, open Safari and type the address from step 4, with :7443 on the end. It looks something like:

    https://your-mac.your-tailnet.ts.net:7443

    You should see: a page saying the device is not enrolled. That is correct. It means Maius is there and is refusing strangers. Step 6 introduces your phone.

  6. 6Introduce your phone to Maius, once

    Maius will not talk to a device it has never met. On your Mac, ask your Maius agent: “show me my enrolment link for the phone” — it will give you a web address ending in ?enrol= and a long code.

    Open that address on your phone once. After that your phone is remembered and you use the plain address from step 5.

    Keep that link private. Anyone who has it can reach your agents. Do not paste it into a chat, an email, or a support ticket — not even ours.

  7. 7Put it on your home screen

    With Maius open on your phone, tap the Share button (the square with an arrow), scroll down, and tap Add to Home Screen.

    You should see: a Maius icon on your home screen. Tap it and it opens full screen, with no address bar — like any other app.

If something does not work

My phone cannot find the address

Check the Tailscale app on your phone is switched on — it has a toggle, and it turns itself off sometimes after an update. Then check your Mac is awake: a sleeping Mac cannot answer. Maius runs on your machine, so your machine has to be on.

It says my device is not enrolled

That is step 6. Your phone has reached Maius correctly and Maius is refusing to talk to a device it does not recognise. Ask your Maius agent on the Mac for the enrolment link and open it on the phone once.

The microphone does not work

Almost always step 3. Apple only allows the microphone on a properly secured connection, so if HTTPS Certificates are off in Tailscale, iOS silently blocks it. Turn it on, then close and reopen the page on your phone.

Do I have to pay Tailscale?

No. Tailscale is free for personal use, and well past the number of devices you are likely to own. We do not charge for phone access either — it is part of the app.

Is my conversation going through Maius?

No. Your phone talks to your Mac directly over your Tailscale network. We are not in the middle and we cannot see it. Model usage still goes to Anthropic on your own Claude account, exactly as it does on the Mac.
